Ms. Shirley Dangerfield

Shirley Bernita Hutson Dangerfield was born May 14, 1936 in Philadelphia, PA to Thomas Hutson and Norma Hutson. Following elementary school, she attended Shumaker Jr. High in Philadelphia until moving to Columbus, Ohio to live with her aunt and graduate from Columbus East High School in 1954. While attending the Church of Christ of the Apostolic Faith in Columbus, Ohio with her aunt, she began to realize something was missing and she felt very dissatisfied. She was baptized in Jesus’ name and received the gift of the Holy Ghost on May 26, 1950. She attended Aenon Bible School on a scholarship. She was a member of the Young People’s Choir, a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Contact Committee for the Personal Workers. Shirley was always creative with a natural ability for drawing and, later in life, sculpting. In addition, she loved listening to and playing classical piano. She was very fashionable and enjoyed sewing and creating outfits to wear. Shirley married Claude Albert Dangerfield on November 11, 1959 and to this union was born a son Claude II and a daughter, Dedra. After migrating back to her hometown, Philadelphia, she began to work at Community College of Philadelphia as secretary of the Business Manager. She matriculated through several positions and retired as coordinator of the Learning Lab. While working at Community College of Philadelphia, she received an Associate degree in General Studies.in 1983. After retirement, she moved to Youngstown, Ohio to be close to her family and back to the State she loved so much. She remained in Youngstown as a faithful member of the Mount Calvary Pentecostal Church of the PAW. She moved to Knoxville, TN in the Fall of 2018 when her health began to decline. No longer able to reside in the home, she became a resident of Dominion Senior Living in Johnson City and eventually became a resident of Dominion Senior Living of Bristol, a memory care facility. She was called home to be with the Lord on December 26, 2025 at the age of 89. She leaves the legacy of a life well lived and it lives on in her children and grandchildren. She is preceded in death by parents Thomas Hutson and Norma Otis Warfield, her aunt, Eileen Griffin, three brothers, Tommy, Jay and Darrell. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Claude (Rose Marie) Dangerfield II of Gloucester, VA, Dedra (Roderick) Preston of Knoxville, TN, six grandchildren, Kala, Claude III (Giselle), Dionne, Roderick Jr (Olivia), Tamra and Nick. She, also, leaves behind two sisters, Joyce Hutson and Shirley Cadet and one brother, Michael Hutson, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She, also, leaves behind a few cherished friends, Gloria Woods, Leila Latter and a special co-worker, Joan Monroe. Shirley’s life is measured by the relationships she developed through the years and the impact she had on these relationships. Furthermore, she maintained until the end, “My desire shall always be to contend for the faith which was once delivered to the saints” The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Alzheimer's Associating in memory of Ms. Shirley Dangerfield. https://events.alz.org/fundraiser/dedrapreston
