Debora J Bonner

Our Queen, Mrs. Debora J. Bonner was born on February 23, 1953 to the late Clyde Russell Stevens and Jennie Mae Stevens in Johnson City, TN. Debora departed to eternal life on February 21, 2020. Debora attended and graduated from Science Hill High School in 1971. She went on to obtain her Cosmetology License and was the owner and operator of Debora’s Hair Salon for many, many years. Debora retired from the hair business and later received her B.A. in Sociology at East Tennessee State University in 2007 and worked as a Social Worker at Asbury Place. Later in life, Debora also took care of Mrs. Rowena for several years, whom she loved dearly. On August 2, 1998, she married Kenneth L. Bonner. The relationship between Debora and Kenneth was more than just husband and wife; it was a joyous advantage of love, growth, and inspiration. Debora deeply loved and cherished her children (Jeri Lyn, Tamara, Phillip & Lindsay) and grandchildren (Austin, Patrick, Jahmar, William, Aaron, Zayden, Ryan & Kai) and there was nothing she wouldn’t do for any of them. She was such a loving, caring, selfless mother and grandmother and was the definition of a virtuous woman. Debora had so much love for her family. She would cook for birthdays, holidays and just because and it filled her heart when family would come together. She always encouraged family love. Debora loved to sing, laugh, read inspirational and uplifting books. meditate and travel. She was an inspiration to many and treated people with kindness, decency and respect. Debora always said, kindness makes you the most beautiful person in the world no matter what you look like. Her smile would light up a room and if she was your friend, you had a friend for life. Debora was preceded in death by her father, Clyde R. Stevens, mother, Jennie Mae Stevens, sisters, Arletha Adams, Pamela McKinney, Frankie Coleman, brothers, William Melvin Stevens, Jerry Lynn Stevens, and Michael Fields. Debora leaves to cherish her loving family: Husband, Kenneth L. Bonner, Three daughters; Jeri Lyn (Thomas) Harrington, Virginia Beach, VA, Tamara M. Stevens, Johnson City, TN, and Lindsay E. Bassham, Johnson City, TN One Son: Phillip R. Stevens. Eight Grandchildren: Austin and Patrick Harrington, Virginia Beach, VA. Jahmar, William, and Aaron Adams, Johnson City, TN, Zayden and Ryan Stevens, Johnson City, TN and Kai Bassham, Johnson, City, TN. Six Sisters; Carrie B. Johnson, Kay Love, Janice Spurgeon, Renee Robinson, Jessica Bradley, and Paula Stevens, Johnson City, TN. Two Brothers; Freddie Fields (Jackie), Murfreesboro, TN and Joebuck Adams, Johnson City, TN. And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday March 1, 2020 at Grace Temple Church in Johnson City. The family will receive friends from 2:00pm until 3:00pm at the church prior to the service.
