Mr. Christopher E. Derr

It is with profound sadness and deep love that we announce the passing of Christopher Edward Derr, who unexpectedly departed this life on June 11, 2026, at the age of 60. Born on November 3, 1965, in Hickory, North Carolina, Chris was the beloved child of the late Robert Lee Derr and Barbara Jean Horton Derr. Throughout his life, Chris touched the hearts of countless people through his kindness, compassion, humor, and unwavering love for family and friends. Chris was a devoted husband, father, brother, pop, and uncle who found great joy in the simple moments of life. Whether it was listening to jazz, talking to his granddaughters, playing board games, sharing stories around the dinner table, lending a helping hand, or offering words of encouragement, he had a remarkable ability to make others feel valued and loved. He was a faithful member of Grace Fellowship Church, where every member treated him like family. Above all else, family meant everything to Chris. He leaves behind cherished memories with his beloved wife, Alisha Derr, of 18 years; daughters Krystal Derr of Kingsport, Tennessee, Destiny Jones of Elizabethon, Tennessee, Sarah Carlisle of Johnson City, Tennessee; and stepson Adrian Sensabaugh of Clarksville, Tennessee. He also leaves behind his beautiful granddaughters, Saylor Jade of Kingsport, Tennessee, and Shepard Jewitt of Johnson City, Tennessee; one brother, Jeffery (Bernice) Horton of Hickory, North Carolina; one sister, Tondra (Timothy) Davis of Greenville, North Carolina; one uncle, Calvin Horton of Tennessee; one brother- in-law, Kenny (Cherry) Smith of Hope Mills North Carolina and a host of nieces and nephews, who will forever carry his love in their hearts. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert L. Derr; his mother, Barbara J. Horton Derr; his brother, Charles E. Derr; and his sisters, Judy A. Derr and Barbara A. Squarles. Those who knew Chris will remember him for his special "Hey, buddy" greeting. His legacy is one of love, resilience, generosity, and grace. Though our hearts ache in his absence, we find comfort in the countless memories shared and in the lasting impact he made on everyone fortunate enough to know him. A celebration of Chris's life will be held on June 20, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Grace Fellowship Church. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor, remember, and celebrate a life that was truly a gift to us all. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the members of Grace Fellowship Church for their love, support, and prayers during this difficult time. We would also like to thank the many friends, family members, caregivers, and all those who offered kindness, encouragement, and compassion to Chris and our family. Your support has been a source of strength and comfort, and it will never be forgotten. "Those we love never truly leave us.
